Eastern Heights is one of the higher inner suburbs, with established homes on the ridges south-east of the city centre and Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School at its heart. The elevation keeps it clear of river flooding, but sloping blocks and retaining walls bring their own stormwater questions.
Most of Eastern Heights was built before PVC drainage and copper or PEX water pipes became standard, so earthenware sewer lines, galvanised water pipes and original cisterns are still in the ground and still working.
