Woodend: what
actually goes wrong.
Woodend is a small heritage suburb on the western side of the city centre, best known for Ipswich Grammar School and St Edmund’s College and for its grand Queenslanders on Chelmsford Avenue and Woodend Road. It slopes down to the Bremer River, which has reached its lower streets in major floods.
Most of Woodend was built before PVC drainage and copper or PEX water pipes became standard, so earthenware sewer lines, galvanised water pipes and original cisterns are still in the ground and still working. That age is what drives the enquiries here: blockages that keep coming back at the same joint, corrosion leaks inside walls, and fixtures whose parts stopped being made decades ago.
