Augustine Heights: what
actually goes wrong.
Augustine Heights is a family-oriented suburb of 2000s and 2010s estates between Brookwater and Redbank Plains, anchored by St Augustine’s College and Augusta Parkway. It is a five-minute drive from our Redbank Plains base, making it one of the closest suburbs to home.
Most homes in Augustine Heights are recent builds with PVC drainage and modern water services, so pipe age is rarely the culprit. What we see instead is new-home trouble: builder's debris left in the line, braided flexi-hoses letting go under basins, stormwater redirected by landscaping, and first-generation hot water systems starting to fail.
The homes, and what that means for the pipes
Modern brick homes on compact to mid-sized lots, with a scattering of larger acreage-style blocks on the fringes.
95% of occupied homes in Augustine Heights are separate houses, so the drainage and stormwater on your block are almost certainly yours to maintain up to the connection point. The 2021 Census counted an average of 3.2 people per household in Augustine Heights, in homes averaging 3.9 bedrooms. That is the number that should size a replacement hot water system — not the tank that happens to be there now.
Drainage and stormwater
PVC drainage and engineered stormwater, with the usual new-estate issues: construction debris, landscaping over drains and grates set at the wrong height.
